One record across a lifetime of cardiac device care.

With HRI Pro, cardiac device teams record implants, review follow-ups, bring supported remote transmissions together and act on field safety notices, in one record per patient. That routine work builds the Living Registry. In Ireland, HRI has run the National Cardiac Device Registry this way since 2008.

National infrastructure

Ireland runs its cardiac device registry on HRI. It has since 2008.

Not a pilot, and not a product used in a handful of clinics. HRI has built and operated Ireland's National Cardiac Device Registry across public and private cardiac care since 2008.

Allprivate cardiac hospitals in Ireland
Mostpublic (HSE) cardiac device services, the vast majority nationally
~50%of registry records originate in private hospitals, in one framework with public care
Recognisedby HIQA as the national cardiac device registry, and listed on the HSE National Application Registry

Organisations and networks on HRI include

  • HSE
  • Bon Secours Health System
  • Mater Private Network
  • Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
  • Beaumont Hospital
  • St Vincent's University Hospital
  • Tallaght University Hospital

Six stages of the device journey, filmed in the product.

Every film below is HRI Pro as clinical teams use it, recorded with demonstration data. Pick a stage.

The record starts in the lab, not weeks later.

Patient, consultant, generator and leads are captured in one guided workflow at implantation, for pacemakers, ICDs, CRT, loop recorders, S-ICD and EV-ICD, including leadless systems.

  • Barcode scanning for generator and lead details
  • Each serial checked against every patient on the registry
  • Consultant templates arrive in their own words
  • One submission creates the patient, the implant and the PDFs

Field Safety on a shared registry

A safety notice raised in one hospital is visible across participating HRI hospitals.

Patients move. They are implanted in one hospital, followed up in another and turn up unplanned in a third. HRI matches a manufacturer's serial list against the registry and puts the flag on the patient's record wherever they are next seen.

A standalone clinic database searches the patient population it holds. HRI can match against the shared registry across participating hospitals. The action then carries across participating hospitals and reports back to the one that raised it.

Mater Misericordiae University Hospital: about 150 hours of work, done in 3 minutes.

Boston Scientific Accolade field safety notice, uploaded 7 May 2026. The 150-hour figure is the Mater's own estimate of the previous serial-by-serial process.

1,921serial numbers uploaded in one action
1,867matched to patient records (97.2%)
330identified as deceased and resolved in bulk
33duplicate serials detected
21unmatched, isolated for investigation
3 minfrom upload to a categorised work list
“For a Field Safety Notice of nearly 2,000 devices, searching for each serial number one by one just isn't practical. We uploaded the full list and had every patient identified, categorised, and flagged in 3 minutes. It's a completely different capability.”
Fiona Coughlan and Emmet O'Connor, CRM Clinical Specialists, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
  1. The list goes in. Every serial is cross-referenced against the registry, not only the Mater's own implants.
  2. One action covers every living patient. The manufacturer's recommended software update is assigned, with a priority flag and clinical note on each record.
  3. The flag travels. It is visible to any clinician who opens that patient's record at any participating hospital.
  4. Within a week, it worked. An affected patient attended another HRI hospital. The clinician there saw the flag and completed the action, and the Mater's dashboard updated itself. No phone calls, no emails.

The Living Registry

The registry is a by‑product of care, not a reporting job.

Nobody fills in a registry form. Each step of routine care is recorded once, in the clinical workflow, and the registry is what that adds up to. Ireland has run on this model nationally since 2008.

What builds it

  • ImplantsPatient, generator and leads captured in the lab, serials validated
  • Follow-upsIn-clinic checks, including programmer data through ProLink
  • RemoteTransmissions reviewed through Remote Link
  • Field safetyNotices, affected patients, actions and outcomes
  • MovementPatients followed up, revised or replaced at another hospital

What the first hospital in a new country gets

A network takes time to build. None of these depend on one.

  • A whole-life device record from day oneImplant, programmer, clinic and remote data in one place, rather than a remote-monitoring inbox beside a separate implant database.
  • Field safety across your own sites, in minutesBulk serial matching, group actions and clinical intercept work within a single hospital or network from go-live.
  • No separate HRI registry data-entry stepRegistry-grade data is created through the clinical workflow rather than re-entered into a separate form. Any external statutory reporting your country requires is handled separately.
  • A network that compoundsEach hospital that joins extends the same record, so patients who move are no longer lost between systems.

How the National Registry is governed in Ireland

The National Cardiac Device Registry in Ireland operates under a defined two-layer governance model. For clinical care delivered through HRI Pro, each hospital is data controller and HRI acts as its data processor, acting on the hospital’s instructions. For the cross-hospital National Cardiac Device Registry, HRI acts as data controller under data sharing agreements with participating hospitals.

HRI sets the registry architecture, cross-hospital access controls, retention framework and registry governance. Access is role-based and activity is audit logged. HRI’s role as registry controller does not provide unrestricted rights over patient data. Research and secondary use are subject to an appropriate lawful basis, governance, ethics requirements and technical controls.

Governance arrangements outside Ireland are established for each market and deployment in accordance with local law, health-system requirements and the agreed roles of participating organisations.

Research and AI

Eighteen years of recording what happened. Now researching what may happen next.

HRI's research draws on longitudinal cardiac device histories that begin at implantation and continue through routine follow-up, device changes and clinical events across the National Registry. That depth of history is a different foundation for predictive research.

EU Horizon project

CARAMEL

HRI is a partner in CARAMEL, a Horizon Europe project on cardiovascular health in women aged 40 to 60. AI modelling is applied to longitudinal device data inside HRI's own environment, under the project's governance and ethical framework.

ESC Digital & AI Summit

An abstract on HRI's late-fusion AI framework has been accepted for presentation at the European Society of Cardiology's Digital & AI Summit 2026. Results will be published here once they have been presented.

Why the data matters

Longitudinal, national-scale, 18 years

Prediction needs the full story: what was implanted, how it behaved at every check, and what happened next, including for patients who changed hospital. That is what a registry built through care holds.

This is a research programme. The models described are not a feature of HRI Pro, are not used in clinical decision-making and are not medical devices.

Questions buyers ask first

What is HRI Pro?

A cardiac device management platform used by hospital device clinics. It covers implantation, programmer integration, clinic follow-up, remote monitoring and field safety in one longitudinal patient record, and has been in continuous clinical use in Ireland since 2008.

Is HRI Pro a remote monitoring service?

No. HRI Pro is software used by the hospital's own clinical team. Remote Link brings transmissions from supported manufacturer platforms into a single work queue inside the patient record. HRI does not replace your clinical review.

How is Field Safety different from a recall search in our clinic database?

A standalone clinic database searches the patient population it holds. HRI can match against the shared registry across participating hospitals. Affected patients are identified wherever they were implanted within the network, and the flag appears on the record at any participating hospital. At the Mater, 1,921 serials were matched and categorised in three minutes.

What is the Living Registry?

The cardiac device registry that HRI Pro builds as a by-product of routine care. Implants, follow-ups, remote transmissions and safety actions are recorded once in the clinical workflow and contribute to a governed registry across participating hospitals. There is no separate HRI registry data-entry step.

Which devices are supported?

Pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, implantable loop recorders, subcutaneous ICDs and extravascular ICDs, including leadless systems, across supported manufacturers.

What security certifications does HRI hold?

ISO/IEC 27001:2022, with a certificate scope covering the cloud-based cardiac device management platform and the National Cardiac Device Registry, and Cyber Essentials Plus.

What is HRI Plus?

The patient membership connected to HRI Pro. Members carry a Cardiac Device ID card, and the full membership adds a wristband and key fobs, all usable without a smartphone. The optional app lets patients share their device record with a clinician for a limited time, give trusted contacts read-only access, and keep medications, appointments, allergies and medical documents together. It is an information and identification service.
